Source: https://heartattackriskcalc.com/index.md # HeartRiskCalc: site overview Documentation updated: 2026-10-16. This is an editorial update, not a clinical review. HeartRiskCalc (https://heartattackriskcalc.com) is an independent educational website. It offers four free browser-based cardiovascular calculators and public, source-linked health guides. No account, subscription, or payment is required. There is no paid plan, sponsored content, or advertising currently. It is not an official AHA, ACC, MESA, or Framingham service. The team is not licensed medical professionals, and the site is not physician-reviewed. ## Tools and structure - [Home / PCE calculator](https://heartattackriskcalc.com): The 2013 Pooled Cohort Equations for 10-year ASCVD risk. - [PREVENT calculator](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/prevent-calculator): A separate implementation of the AHA PREVENT base equations. - [MESA calculator](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/mesa-calculator): Coronary heart disease risk with and without a coronary artery calcium score, plus calcium percentile bands. - [Calcium score by age](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/calcium-score-by-age): Calcium score percentiles by age, sex, and race, with a percentile-band lookup. - [Heart age calculator](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/heart-age-calculator): The lipid-based 2008 Framingham general CVD model and a derived heart age. - [ASCVD risk score guide](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/ascvd-risk-score): Educational score interpretation. - [PCE methodology page](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/methodology): Home calculator equations and limitations. Health inputs and calculated results are not sent to the site's server or analytics. There is no public calculation API, patient account, or saved health history. Google Analytics loads only after consent and receives page/action information, not health values. External AI links use a fixed website question; they are not a clinical chatbot embedded in HeartRiskCalc. Scores are educational estimates for discussion with a clinician. They cannot detect an ongoing heart attack, prove that someone is safe, or decide whether to start or stop medication. For suspected heart attack symptoms, call emergency services immediately (911 in the U.S.; the local emergency number elsewhere). ## Related documentation - [Documentation index](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/llms.txt) - [Calculator details](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/calculators.md) - [Models and sources](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/methodology.md) - [Privacy and AI links](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/privacy.md) --- Source: https://heartattackriskcalc.com/calculators.md # HeartRiskCalc: calculators Documentation updated: 2026-10-16. Describes the implemented tools; not personal medical advice. ## PCE / home calculator Page: https://heartattackriskcalc.com. Methodology: https://heartattackriskcalc.com/methodology. - Model: 2013 ACC/AHA Pooled Cohort Equations (PCE), ages 40–79, without a prior ASCVD event. - Outcome: 10-year risk of a first hard ASCVD event (nonfatal myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease death, or fatal/nonfatal stroke). It is not heart-attack-only risk. - Inputs: age, sex, race group, total and HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, blood pressure treatment, diabetes, and smoking. Cholesterol can be entered in mg/dL or mmol/L. - This is the older PCE model, not PREVENT. The home result's derived heart age compares risk against an optimal PCE profile within ages 40–79; it is not the separate Framingham tool below. ## PREVENT calculator Page: https://heartattackriskcalc.com/prevent-calculator. - Model: AHA PREVENT base equations (2023/2024 publications), without known cardiovascular disease. This site reports 10-year estimates for ages 30–79 and 30-year estimates only for ages 30–59. - Outcomes: separate ASCVD, heart failure, and total CVD risk estimates. - Inputs: age, sex, total and HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, BMI, kidney function (eGFR, or estimated from serum creatinine), blood pressure treatment, statin use, diabetes, and smoking. Race is not an input. - This implementation does not include the optional UACR, HbA1c, or social deprivation index add-ons. Do not guess missing laboratory measurements. ## MESA calcium score calculator Page: https://heartattackriskcalc.com/mesa-calculator. - Model: published 2015 MESA CHD equations, ages 45–85 without known cardiovascular disease, for White, Black, Hispanic, and Chinese American groups. This is not the newer race-free model. - Outcome: 10-year coronary heart disease risk, with and without a coronary artery calcium (CAC) score; includes myocardial infarction, resuscitated cardiac arrest, CHD death, and revascularization with angina. Stroke is not included. - Inputs: age, sex, race/ethnicity group, total and HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, blood pressure and lipid treatment, smoking, diabetes, family history, and an optional CAC Agatston score. If no scan score is supplied, no with-CAC result is calculated. - CAC comparison uses reference percentile bands for ages 45–84, not an exact percentile. Published rounded coefficients can produce small differences from the official calculator. A zero calcium score does not exclude non-calcified plaque or acute disease. ## Calcium score by age lookup Page: https://heartattackriskcalc.com/calcium-score-by-age. - Data: MESA CAC reference percentiles (25th/50th/75th/90th and share with a score above 0) for ages 45–84, by sex and White, Black, Hispanic, or Chinese American group, retrieved from the official MESA CAC Reference Calculator. - Output: the percentile band a score falls in, not an exact percentile, plus the 2018 ACC/AHA guideline range. Ages 30–44 receive published summary figures from Javaid et al. (JACC 2022) instead of a band. - A percentile is not a risk estimate; the MESA calculator converts a score into 10-year CHD risk. ## Framingham heart age calculator Page: https://heartattackriskcalc.com/heart-age-calculator. - Model: lipid-based 2008 Framingham general cardiovascular disease model, ages 30–74 without known cardiovascular disease. - Outputs: general 10-year CVD risk and heart age, derived by matching risk to a same-sex normal-risk-factor profile. This is not a biological age measurement. - Inputs: age, sex, total and HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure, blood pressure treatment, smoking, and diabetes. - General CVD includes a broader set of outcomes than PCE or PREVENT-ASCVD. Do not compare these percentages as if they measure the same outcome, or apply one model's treatment thresholds to another. ## Shared boundaries All tools on this site are free, require no account, and calculate locally. Scores do not diagnose symptoms or prescribe medication. For a suspected heart attack, call emergency services immediately rather than using a risk calculator. The site is independent and not physician-reviewed. ## Model distinctions The [home calculator](https://heartattackriskcalc.com) implements 2013 PCE for first ASCVD events. [PREVENT](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/prevent-calculator) is a separate base-model calculator reporting ASCVD, heart failure, and total CVD. [MESA](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/mesa-calculator) estimates CHD with and without coronary calcium. [Framingham heart age](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/heart-age-calculator) uses a broader general CVD model. Their outcomes, populations, and risk thresholds differ. The [HTML methodology page](https://heartattackriskcalc.com/methodology) explains PCE specifically, including its equation, coefficient groups, optimal-profile comparison, and limitations. The other calculator pages explain their respective models. The home PCE-derived heart age and the standalone Framingham heart age are distinct calculations. The tools use published equations implemented in browser code; no language model generates the scores. An external AI answer about the website is separate from the calculations and may be inaccurate. None of these models can determine whether someone is having a heart attack now. Treatment decisions require a clinician and current clinical guidance. ## Primary references - PCE: Goff DC Jr, et al. 2013 ACC/AHA Guideline on the Assessment of Cardiovascular Risk. Health inputs and calculated results are not uploaded to the site's server, stored in a patient account, or attached to analytics events. There is no saved health history or public calculation API. Browser-side calculations do not mean ordinary website requests are anonymous or that third-party services have the same privacy policy. ## Analytics Google Analytics loads only after a visitor accepts analytics. It receives page and action information, not health inputs or scores. Starting, completing, trying an example, and requesting a print dialog are distinct actions. Consent preferences are saved in the browser; the footer's Analytics settings control can reopen them. If analytics are declined, the Google tag is not loaded. Advertising personalization and Google Signals are disabled in the site tag. No AdSense or advertising is currently displayed. ## External AI links The footer offers links to ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Grok with a fixed question about HeartRiskCalc's public documentation. The question contains public website URLs and asks about tools, model differences, limitations, cost, and privacy. It contains no visitor input, calculated result, account identifier, or personal health data. No AI service is loaded or contacted by this feature until a visitor opens a link. These services are external and governed by their own terms and privacy policies. Their availability, browsing access, sign-in requirements, and prompt-prefill behavior can vary. Visitors can view and manually copy the same question from the footer if it does not prefill. AI answers can be wrong; personal health details should not be shared through these links. The AI links are for explaining this website, not for diagnosis or medication advice.
